The Visual Appeal Of Karastan Rugs

Karastan rugs were some of the earliest Oriental rug imitations made in the United States. Karastan soon advanced its weaving procedure with the development of the Karastan Axminster loom. This was the first power loom to create rugs showing the pile yarns though the back, just like the hand-woven originals from the Orient that are their design inspiration. The next obstacle for Karastan area rugs was refining the coloring. By the mid thirties, Karastan was able to launch what would become the best selling Karastan rug in history – a multi-color Kerman.

A fixture on Henry Street in Eden, NC since 1928, Karastan celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2003. Karastan is a division of Mohawk Industries, a Calhoun, GA based company that produces area rugs and other floor coverings.

The original Karastan Company was part of the department store giant Marshall Field of Chicago. Karastan produces a complete range of woven and tufted rugs for the residential and contract markets.

Karastan style rugs can be effortlessly and inexpensively maintained. To help guard your area rug from soil, wear and slippage while lengthening the life of the rug, get a quality rug underlay. Your rug should be turned around yearly to make sure that it wears evenly. Rugs should be vacuumed often to get rid of soil and bring back life to the fibers.

Karastan Collections

Rugs in Karastan’s American Modern collection feature fresh, contemporary style, and they are easy to decorate with. Antique Legends is an out of this world collection of Axminster rugs with a classic finish, and rugs from the Ashara collection are carefully woven from the finest fully worsted New Zealand wool and symbolize the standard of quality in wool rugs. You can find several other beautiful Karastan collections online.
