Choose an Area Rug that is Natural and Not Dyed

Every home has a multitude of things in it that can cause allergic reactions in the body. Dust mites and mold or mildew brings about problems in the body, especially if people have asthma. Carpeting holds dirt and dust so installing hardwood floors might be the answer for people with allergy sensitivities. If you have hardwood floors, area rugs would be necessary and there are some good natural healthy area rugs with anti-microbial properties. They come in various sizes and fit into every decor. These rugs are un-dyed and untreated natural wool rugs that have healthy pads on the bottom and are environmentally friendly. Sea grass rugs will compliment any allergy free area and one that is naturally humid, making them good in a lower level basement. However, too much humidity will create mold and mildew and a dehumidifier may be necessary during certain months of the year.

Area rugs of cotton can be laundered frequently. I like this from a cleanliness standpoint, but it's great to remove dust and animal dander too. Dust mites just love carpeting so having rugs that you can wash is a bonus. Considering the type of furniture is also an issue when it comes to dust mites. They live in thick plush furniture so having pared down wooden furniture is a better choice for controlling allergens.  Air filters are available to remove dust mites and other bacterial problems in the air. They also improve indoor air quality in general. A good vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter also removes many allergens in the rug or carpet. If you need to watch the types of materials you use in your home due to allergies, consider hardwood floors and area rugs as the answer. Wash your problems away and breathe easier at the same time.
